The dissasembly and body/paint work is the most important part of the restoration process. If something is left out during this process, it will show in the final product. Here is a step by step description of what gets done during the machines restoration and there are some photos below that show some of these processes.
- Original machine gets stripped down of all parts that are screwed together, if it's screwed together, it comes apart. - All original hardware is marked and sorted, all old parts like door liners, rubber, wiring is tossed as it will get replaced with new. - Once competely tore down, all metal parts get media blasted to clean off rust, paint, grime and prepped paint, plating or chrome. - Working compressors get diagnosed, then torn down, Sand blasted and repainted. New motors on the fans get installed, new cooling shroud gets installed, new wiring, fan blades cleaned, basically a whole makeover. If parts are bad it's service and new compressor parts are installed. (99% of our orignal compressors are reworked and continue to run for years to come, and are servicable if they do fail) - All small parts get cleaned and prepped for paint if they are to be painted. - Body gets complete body shop attention, and all dings, dents or problem areas are addressed and fixed. - Any rusted metal is cut out and new panels are welded in place and ground down to match. - Body recieves several skim coats of fillers, sanded, skimmed again, sanded and worked till smooth, then Primed and Painted with a PPG automotive grade paint. - Bottle stack, Coin mech and smaller parts are dissassembled completely and set asside for new plating. - All platable parts are tripple zinc plated in either gold or silver, depending on their placement in the machine. - Some of the parts are now being Powder coated like liner tubs, shelves and some other small parts. this is proving to be another great finsih method used by many restorers. - Coin mech is dissasembled and all plateable parts are replated, and reassembled with new springs, screws and tested. - All chromed parts are re-chromed including coin entry bezel, some vend handles, coin cups, handles, etc... if it was chromed originall, it's redone. - All stainless parts are polished to mirror like finish. - All shelves are sandblasted then replated in a shiney silver zinc coating or Powder coated. - Tub is either replated, or powder coated. - During reassembly all parts are reaseembled including coin mech, bottle stack. - Machine is put back together using new hardware, including screws, bolts etc. - All new insulation is used in body and in main door, Main door is assembled using brand new reproduction black plastic liner and all new door rubber. - We spend over 20 hours during the reassembly process to make sure everything goes back together the way it should and fits correctly. - New wiring is run to the bottle door light balasts and new flourescent tube is installed. - All parts are put on the machine where they belong and fastened securly. - New vinyl decals are applied to the machine as they where placed originally, Additional "Dress Up" decals are available if requested. - New glass in the bottle door is installed. - All embossed lettering is "Hand Painted" by a professional sign painter. - Redone compressor is reassembled into machine and fastened securely. - Once machine is completely reassembled, all parts are tested to open and close propertly , fasten correctly etc. - Machine is plugged in and tested for 72 hours to ensure proper cooling and cycling. - Machine is then done and ready for many years of future enjoyment.
